Before we dive into the Battlefield 6 Official Multiplayer Gameplay Trailer, let’s take a moment to assess the hype.
For so long, there’s been no competent Battlefield title to fill the middle-ground between Squad’s realism and Call of Duty’s arcade-y gameplay.
Battlefield used to fill this niche very nicely by offering arcade-y and forgiving gameplay with aspects of teamwork and objective gameplay. However, the recent titles fell off a cliff both critically and mechanically.
Especially Battlefield 2042, which didn’t even get a traditional scoreboard implemented until 4 months after official release. Even now, the game doesn’t scratch that itch left behind by its predecessors.
As a result, players have high hopes that Battlefield 6 is what BF2042 was meant to be.
Battlefield 6 is expected to release officially this October 10, 2025. With an open beta taking place August 9 – 10 and August 14 – 17.
However, if you are an avid Twitch viewer, watching select streams might earn you the chance to unlock an early access code.
Anyway, let’s get diving.
The Breakdown:
- 0:16 Limp Bizkit remix cues in. I like Limp Bizkit and the original version of this song, but I’m not sure if this remix is doing it for me or not.
- 0:34 and 0:37 The shooting on beat is pretty sick. Tank fire sounds like a drum fill. Shot at 0:34 implies that bullets can penetrate at least one target, maybe collateral damage will be possible in normal matches?
- 0:40 The shot of the house collapsing piece-by-piece is just the beginning of the amount of destruction on display in this trailer. Makes me very excited for the individual player’s potential to demolish objects with explosives and firearms and whatnot. JUST IN-GAME THOUGH.
- 0:48 to 0:54 Using the drone to blow up that enemy vantage point is a very cool cinematic idea, but it raises questions in terms of gameplay. What’s to stop the attacking team from blowing it up every single game? And are the buildings holding it up any bit destructible?
- 0:56 A new gadget is shown off here and it appears to be a really high-tech ladder for sieging castle walls- I mean two-story buildings. But, seriously, we’ve been using siege ladders in warfare for like 1000 years now. War really never changes.
- 1:03 Slide/Movement mechanic could have potential if incorporated correctly. I hope it doesn’t become some annoying tech you need to spam just to keep up with everyone.
- 1:05 A lot of people are excited for the dog tag snatching animation to be in first-person. Such a simple preference, but adds so much immersion and satisfaction. I hope they keep this in the final product.
- 1:11 “Give me something to break” while bringing down the hammer is a great cinematic moment. It shows how destruction of the environment is truly in the hands of the player. Buildings don’t fall apart because they are scripted to, but because the player wants them to.
- 1:15 Aiming down at the unsuspecting enemy soldiers who just had their roof caved in is everything Rainbow Six wanted to be but never became.
- 1:21 We’re seeing more vehicles being shown off now, with the decked-out Humvee and low-flying Heli at 1:24
- 1:30 This moment of the Heli crashing into the building and all the debris coming off is epic and I hope it reflects real interactions that can occur in the final version.
- 1:36 Wouldn’t be a true Battlefield game without some player-flown planes/jets.
- 1:41 Return of Operation Firestorm is a nice nostalgia hit. It also lets us know the scale of the maps will at least be equal to BF4.
- 1:43 We catch a glimpse of the pilot HUD and everything looks pretty solid!
- 1:47 The perspective of a helicopter machine gunner goes pretty hard. Cool way to advertise this feature.
- 1:51 Another Heli crashes into a building. I think they are really trying to say something about the destruction interactions here.
- 1:54 Rappelling down from a Chinook looks like a very cool way to respawn.
- 1:57 Shooting while being dragged is on full display here. This will definitely create some memorable moments for players.
- 2:07 That mixing in of the original Terminator-esque Battlefield theme with the Limp Bizkit remix is genius.
- 2:11 Title Card. Battlefield 6 will be released worldwide on October 10, 2025. But expected to enter open-beta this August.
My Reaction:
Visually and mechanically, it honestly looks too good to be true.
It’s definitely not a straight “gameplay” trailer. There is quite a lot of cinematography and camera direction going on in the trailer. We barely see any elements of the HUD or UI the whole time. A more accurate label would probably be like “POV trailer” or “Cinematic FPS Trailer” or something like that.
Enough pessimism though, this trailer indicates an absolutely banging instalment in the franchise. Every aspect seems like a return to form while also building on the classic formula in all the right ways. This is definitely a release to watch out for!
Whoever was working on this trailer needs a raise.
